Day 1 -- Monday May 11th (recreations department)
I started work at 8: 30 some of my jobs that i did there today was set the morning board and was told were everything was placed so i can do it on my own if i need to. i was told to search for some fun trivia that we would share to the elders at news and veiw time and after that my supervisor went upstairs to the elders rooms to invite them down to the news and veiw circle we were going to have downstairs after that some of the elders visited the pet rabbit that the rec department has. then i was asked by my supervisor to make a template of the craft that the elder would be making at craft time, it was a dandilion flower with a pencil stem and once that task was completed i folded invations up and then headed back upstairs to gather some seniors in ti a lounge room so they could me their craft and have some coffee then we came back down and the i did some book work so i would know what to do when i go upstairs to the elders and do 1 on 1 visits with them ( their's an attendence sheet to keep record of who took part in which activities) the book work took me until 4:30. this workplacement is not that bad , but i still did enjoy my first on a lot but i think i'll like it better in the next few days. everyone at the place is very nice and welcoming, they are very freindly all the elders are nice and very happy with big smiles that what keeps the day going.
Day 5 -- Friday May 15th
Today i started my day at 8:30 i changed the front board date and weather and then changed the days schedule so the elders
would have an idea of what was going on today. today was "fun friday" we started with the daily news i set the room up and got the trivia board set up and then i went up and gathered all the elders that i knew, and some of the requested elders down.
after that i did some book work, and then i did some pet visits and then we got ready for the faith group and bought every one down and then after that activity was finished we went to tai chi activities i sat in and watched. after that i was sent into the kitchen to get to full baskets of ice for the cooler so my supervisor could put drinks in it for happy hour later on :). then i gathered some elders after lunch for bingo and i had to help one elder for bingo ( i had to write the numbers down on a board so she could see them because she can't hear but she's a real nice lady). after thta i was to take a elder to her room because she wasn't quite sure what room she belonged to so i took her up and by mistake went to the wrong floor and then a nurse told me the right number and when the elvator door closed it got stuck and the elvator would'nt move it had gotten stuck and i was very scared but after awhile the door opened again and then it closed back and the relief of being stuck was lifted...
after bingo it was happy hour and the elder got free time where they enjoyed the time singing , dancing and drinking and then i did some more book work and then later did a one on one withe an elder. this was my day at kinsmen place lodge.
Day 7 -- Wednesday May 20th
i started work at 8.30 on this miserable rainy day. i went to work by changind the calendar and today schedule and then i went like usual up and down the elvator gathering the elders to come down for sing a long in the sitting room beside the piano.and then when that was completed i did some book work and then i went back up the floors doing some pet visits with rec departments rabbit named 'satin'. and then when that was complete i got ready for tea time i went to the kitchen and made coffee and tea and then headed upstiars with my supervisor where we gathered some elders and sat in the lounge room and had a cup of coffee and read some short stories and then i went downstairs and helped out with the elders and the whalley daycare group they were havin fun makin play-do creatures. then i had my lunch break and after that i watered some dried plant in the sitting area and then i headed off to do some one on ones with some elders and then when that was done my shift ended at 4;30.that is how my third last day went
Day 9 -- Friday May 22nd
today was the last day and is started at 8:30with my other supervisor and i changed all the boards and got set up for sing along
and went to gather the elders that usually come down to join this activty and then when that was done we got ready for tai chi and that was held for an hour and during that time i did one on ones with some elders and then i glued some pictures of the elders on to poster board they were pictures from the events they had. then after that i left for my break and when i came back i got set up for bingo and and invited the elders down and they had couple rounds of bingo. and because it was friday today it was 'fun friday' the had happy hour :) they had a guy come and sing some song and then once that was finished i helped clean up and assisted some elders back to their rooms and then it was 4:30. i think this experience was really different and not that bad it was great experience and i met a lot of nice workers here ( my co workers and the elders ). the types of jobs here are rec department assistant front desk ,maintenence, care aid, nurse, kitchen staff, and many more. my knowledge has broaden more i got to interact with many people and my fondest memory will be just having a great time with everyone , the down point would be when this lady started yelling at me because i couldn't give her a straight answer and told to check with the rec staff theant new what was going on but i walked away because there as no point of the argument.
all in all i did have a great time at kinsmen place lodge. :)
